Kamini & Jeff’s wedding

I had the amazing opportunity to work with such a fun and quirky couple, Jeff & Kamini.  I loved helping plan this Moroccan inspired wedding for this fun loving couple. Many hours and hard effort was put in by this couple, as well with my guidance to create such a magical event on June 21st, 2014. It was such a pleasure working with Josh Cornell & Gord from Renaissance Studios who were absolutely amazing to work with and did a super job capturing the love between these two love birds! I loved the bright and colourful Indian ceremony. The sacred indian traditions were heart melting. Kamini looked absolutely stunning in wedding outfits from India. Jeff looked handsome in his outfits from CTC West. absolutely enjoyed the grand entrance with the traditional white horse. The buffet of Indian food provided by Bombay Palace was so delicious, that I was so tempted to go for seconds! The decor executed by Dream Party Decor was inspired by the couple’s idea of sunny dessert feel by having a warm palette for the ceremony. Then for the reception the guests would be surrounded by a Moroccan star lit night. We wish the bride and groom best wishes in their future!

Enjoy some the teaser photos of Kamini & Jeff’s wedding. We will update you with the full gallery…so stay tuned!

Shimmy & Prit’s wedding

Shim & Prit are a fun loving couple. This couple had planned such a great wedding. This couple put great effort and thought into the colour, design, and decor for their big day. They chose amazing vendors for me to work with. They had all the details down to the tee making my job of wedding day co-ordination easy. We had such a blast co-ordinating their wedding day on Saturday March 22, 2014. We loved working with this young and hip couple. We absolutely loved working with Clint Russell and Kimon Kaketsis, from Renaissance Studios who captured the love so eloquently! This wedding was a mix of Tamil & Gujarati Indian traditions with a modern decor flare. The ceremony was held at the sacred temples Swaminarayan Mandir and the reception venue was held at the beautiful Atlantis Pavilion. The gorgeous decor that Manish Pancholi from Dulhan Mandap displayed was absolutely stunning!

Here are the teaser photos of Shim & Prit’s wedding. We will update you with the full gallery…so stay tuned!

FRIEND FEATURE: DeRose Designs and Floral Boutique

We were able to interview Lisa DeRose from DeRose Designs and Floral Boutique

I love beautiful florals and Lisa definitely knows how to mix and match colours and textures in her floral designs.

Here is a preview of our meeting with DeRose Designs!

5D3_5699

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

“I’m the youngest of four girls, born and raised in Toronto, Canada. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur at a young age and I stumbled uponflorals. I worked in a garden centre when I was growing up and pretty much jumped into the floral industry! I’ve been in the floral industry and business for 9 years now and have had the opportunity to grow and expand in my creativity. I love it and don’t think I can do anything else right now. It is my passion…through flowers we can bring smiles to people’s faces and not a lot of people can say they do that. I think that’s such a great art and passion to have. People say that my last name ‘DeRose’  is just so fitting and that I must have been born to be a florist!”

2. What is your business?

“We are floral designers and artists. It’s more than just putting a bunch of roses into a vase. I think the floral industry, at times, doesn’t receive the credit they deserve. Working with flowers is an art. You really have to be mindful of the colour trend, using the right vessel and the right positioning for the right client. In our business, we pride ourselves on quality and customer service and ‘only taking on only what we can handle’. This way our quality and customer service is not diminished. We are a full service floral and gift boutique, where we provide flowers forevents such as baptisms, bar mitzvahs, communions, corporate gatherings and other celebrations. We also offer event styling for private parties where we assist with the design of the linens, florals, table setting, etc.”

3. What inspired you to start your business?

“My love of nature and floral art. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur when I was young, but I really didn’t know what at the time. I always wanted to work with people and make people happy. I think I’m attaining that goal through my flower business.

It’s a celebration of life….when you think of flowers, you think of nature, and we turn nature into something even more beautiful. We are blessed with that gift and people are astonished by it. But for me it comes naturally to create art through flowers.”

4. What sets your business apart from the rest?

“I think our style and quality. Our style is very eclectic and vintage. We are always looking for new and different when we visit the flower markets. I have loyal clients so I always want to introduce new floral and  new designs to them. I’m always thinking outside the box. I still try to keep it real and classy and elegant. It always has to look elegant. There are certain flowers that I won’t use because it just doesn’t work for me. For example, a beautiful orchid willnever be paired with a carnation, they are just two different ends of the spectrum.”

5. What do you love about your job?

“I love that I get to play with flowers everyday! I love that I get to be creative and use that creativity as an outlet to express myself. I get to have nature in my hands and create with that everyday. It is such a gift. To me as an artist, everyday is a fresh canvas, I never know what I will create.”

6. Have you ever had an unusual request from a bride?

Not really.

5D3_5628

7. What is your best selling product/service?

“Our floral is 80% of our business and gift as well.”

8. What advice can you offer brides planning their wedding.

“Be real. Don’t let the process overwhelm you.

And for them to understand how much labour and care and process of preparing that is involved in floral. I think some people may not realize the time, effort and cost involved. There is SO much effort and work that goes into creating floral art. I put my heart and soul into every single piece I create.”

Here are some more photos of De Rose Designs & Floral Boutique! I loved when you walked into the shop you were greeted with beautiful art pieces and intricate designs and gifts!

My High Tea Bridal Shower

A high tea party bridal shower! This bridal shower styled by the Whimsical Wedding & Elegant Events team (Mainly executed by Johanna May Santiago & Creative design by Jillian Gregorio). We wanted to create an event where our guests felt like royalty the moment the entered. Guests from our ‘high tea’ inspired bridal shower enjoyed vintage inspired details like, tea cups, floral tea pots, old fashioned bird cages and sumptuous pastries. Our soft and whimsical light floral accents where created in our DIY white vases made from decoupaged beer bottles.

The french inspired Parisian style bridal shower has pops of pinks, white, & black. The decandent sweets truly exuded french flair complete with chocolate flavoured cupcakes, tarts, and macaroons, amongst many other sugary sweets. The pink & black stripped details illustrate the elegance of this bridal shower. We included hand made parisian styled label tags for the menu.

FRIEND FEATURE: Lemon Truffles Designs

We were able to interview Amna Rather, owner and creative designer from Lemon Truffle Designs. Amna holds a Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design and is a Professional Decorator and a CIFD Certified Floral Designer. She has a deep knowledge and appreciation for design stemming from course work and experience as an interior decorator and fashion accessories designer. Amna specializes in space planning, floral design, colour coordination and transforming ordinary venues into stunning showpieces.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

amna2

“I’ve always loved design, whether it was designing my doll’s clothes when I was six or decorating my room. As cliché` as it might sound, I always wanted to go to design school and so I did! I graduated with an undergraduate degree in textile design. Event design has always been my passion but I was always hesitant to venture into it as a business, but I’m so glad that I
did. I firmly believe that If you are really passionate about something it doesn’t feel like a job.”

2. What is your business?

“Lemon Truffle Designs is a boutique style event décor business. We only focus on the styling and décor for an event such as custom backdrops, floral design and linens. We manage the end-to-end design of events from concept to execution. The initial consultation with the client is where I discuss and establish an understanding of what the client is looking for in terms of
wedding décor, followed by a development of a theme and corresponding storyboard.

lemon truffles

3. What inspired you to start your business?

“My love of design. I felt that I was satisfied the most creatively while designing for weddings. This way I could work with three of my favourite things: fabric, flowers and accessories. I also love meeting new people and developing relationships which continue long after the day of the wedding.

4. What sets your business apart from the rest?

“I don’t like ‘cookie cutter’ ideas; instead, I love coming up with out of the box ideas based on a theme. I love working with clients that want something different than what everyone else has at their wedding. I love working with flowers, fabrics, textile, basically materials that I can play with and create my own design. I feel my business is a personalized service to the clients. I’m available to talk to clients on their schedule via email, Skype, etc. I feel that being available to a bride (or groom!) gives them a sense of ease and one less thing to worry about. Another thing that sets my work apart are the customized designs each tailored to a client’s tastes and preferences. I personally sit with the client and together we review their theme and budget after which a story board is created to match their requirements.”

5. What do you love about your job?

“I love that I get to look at beautiful things all day long. I love that I get to work with flowers. I love working with people and I enjoy keeping in touch with clients. I’ve made a lot of good friends along the way. My past clients still email me and stay in touch with me, they even ask about design advice for their new home!”
6. Have you ever had an unusual request from a bride?

“I had a bride Skype with me until 2am in the morning.”

7. What is your best selling product/service?

“My customized backdrops since it’s one of the focal points of wedding décor. I carry a variety of fabric and accessories that the clients can choose from as well as design customized.”

8. What advice can you offer brides planning their wedding.

“Research your vendors, choose someone you can trust and whose style matches your own.
Get organized and plan ahead to avoid disappointment – all the good vendors get booked well in advance.
Don’t stress out! Everything falls in to place in the end.”
